During the fall and winter months, it will be extremely critical to distinguish COVID-19 patients from those infected with Influenza A or B (flu). The symptoms of both types of viruses can be vastly similar, and in many cases, the patient's medical history alone may not be enough to differentiate them.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that the flu and COVID-19 can both have a range of symptoms and signs, from zero symptoms (asymptomatic) to serious symptoms. The multiplex test is available for patients who are under examination for COVID-19 or the flu and are seeking a diagnosis of an active virus infection. For further information, kindly consult the most recent CDC guidelines.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, your doctor may advise testing for COVID-19:
● Fever or chills
● Cough
● Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
● Fatigue
● Body or muscle aches
● Headache
● Sudden loss of taste or smell
● Sore throat
● Congestion or runny nose
● Vomiting or nausea
● Diarrhea
Not every COVID-19 patient experience symptoms. In addition, not every symptomatic person experience all of the symptoms. Even if you have received a vaccination, if you are experiencing symptoms feel sick or unwell, please contact a healthcare practitioner.
Two types of tests are available for COVID-19: the PCR test and the antigen test.
● Polymerase chain reaction (PCR): This checks for the genetic material of the virus itself or any fragments of it while it is in the process of breaking down. The most efficient and accurate test for detecting an active infection is PCR. Although some PCR tests could take hours to complete, some are done quickly.
● Antigen test: This detects antigens, which are small proteins found on the virus's surface. Usually, antigen tests last 15 to 30 minutes. The greatest amount of virus is in your body shortly after the onset of your symptoms, and that is when rapid antigen tests should be performed to yield the most accurate result.
Although the antigen test is often quicker than the PCR test, it is less accurate. Your healthcare professional might ask for a PCR test to confirm a negative antigen test result.
